Transportan
Drug Delivery / Research ToolAlso known as: TP, Transportan 10, TP10
Cell-Penetrating PeptidesResearch phase: Preclinical (delivery vehicle)Regulatory: Not approved as drug. Research tool for intracellular delivery.
Mechanism
Transportan is a synthetic cell-penetrating peptide made by joining parts of galanin and mastoparan. It efficiently carries cargo molecules into cells.
Technical detail
Transportan is a 27-amino acid chimeric peptide combining the N-terminal 12 residues of galanin with the 14-residue wasp venom peptide mastoparan via a lysine linker. It crosses membranes via energy-independent direct translocation. The shortened analog TP10 (21 aa) retains CPP activity with reduced cytotoxicity and is preferred for delivery applications.
