Textilinin-1

Venom-Derived / Anti-Fibrinolytic

Also known as: Q8008

Snake Venom PeptidesResearch phase: PreclinicalRegulatory: Not approved. Investigational anti-fibrinolytic.

Mechanism

Textilinin-1 is a peptide from brown snake venom that inhibits plasmin, the enzyme that breaks down blood clots. It is being studied as a potential alternative to aprotinin for reducing surgical bleeding.

Technical detail

Textilinin-1 is a Kunitz-type serine protease inhibitor (~7 kDa) from Pseudonaja textilis venom. It is a potent and specific plasmin inhibitor (Ki ~1.4 nM) with minimal off-target effects on other coagulation serine proteases. Preclinical studies demonstrated efficacy in reducing surgical blood loss comparable to aprotinin with an improved safety profile.
