Neuropeptide FF
Neuromodulation / Opioid ModulationAlso known as: NPFF, FLFQPQRFamide, Neuropeptide-FF
RFamide PeptidesResearch phase: PreclinicalRegulatory: Not approved. Endogenous neuropeptide.
Mechanism
Neuropeptide FF modulates the body's opioid pain system. It can either enhance or oppose opioid effects depending on where it acts, and is involved in opioid tolerance.
Technical detail
Neuropeptide FF (NPFF) is an octapeptide of the RFamide family acting through NPFF1R and NPFF2R (GPR74/GPR147). It functions as an anti-opioid peptide at supraspinal sites (reducing morphine analgesia and promoting tolerance) while enhancing opioid analgesia spinally. Also modulates blood pressure, feeding, and neuroendocrine function.
