Neuromedin U

Metabolic / Neuromodulation

Also known as: NMU, NmU-25

Neuromedin FamilyResearch phase: PreclinicalRegulatory: Not approved. Research peptide with therapeutic interest for obesity.

Mechanism

Neuromedin U is a neuropeptide involved in energy balance, feeding, and inflammation. It reduces food intake and increases energy expenditure, making it a target for obesity research.

Technical detail

Neuromedin U (NmU-25) is a 25-amino acid neuropeptide signaling through NMUR1 (peripheral, GI) and NMUR2 (CNS, hypothalamus). It suppresses food intake, increases locomotor activity and energy expenditure, stimulates CRH release, and activates type 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) in allergic inflammation. Long-acting NMU analogs are being explored for obesity.
