Neuromedin B

GI / Neuromodulation

Also known as: NMB

Bombesin FamilyResearch phase: PreclinicalRegulatory: Not approved as drug. Endogenous peptide.

Mechanism

Neuromedin B is a bombesin-related peptide that regulates GI motility, feeding behavior, and body temperature. It also stimulates the release of several pituitary and gut hormones.

Technical detail

Neuromedin B is a 10-amino acid mammalian bombesin-like peptide that activates the NMB receptor (BB1/NMBR). It modulates GI smooth muscle contraction, gastric acid secretion, pancreatic exocrine function, thermoregulation, and stress responses. Also implicated in itch signaling via spinal cord NMB-NMBR circuits.
