Indolicidin

Antimicrobial Peptide

Also known as: Indolicidin

Bovine Antimicrobial PeptidesResearch phase: PreclinicalRegulatory: Not approved. Research compound and drug design template.

Mechanism

Indolicidin is a short, tryptophan-rich antimicrobial peptide from bovine neutrophils with broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, fungi, and HIV.

Technical detail

Indolicidin is a 13-amino acid (ILPWKWPWWPWRR) cationic peptide from bovine neutrophil cytoplasmic granules. Uniquely tryptophan-rich (5/13 residues), it disrupts bacterial membranes and also inhibits DNA synthesis upon internalization. Active against MRSA, fungi, and HIV. Served as the template for the clinical candidate omiganan (MBI-226).
