Gamma-Endorphin

Opioid / Neuromodulation

Also known as: γ-Endorphin, Gamma Endorphin

Endogenous Opioid PeptidesResearch phase: PreclinicalRegulatory: Not approved. Research peptide only.

Mechanism

Gamma-endorphin is another POMC-derived fragment with neuromodulatory rather than strong pain-relieving activity. It has been studied for its effects on psychotic behavior in animal models.

Technical detail

Gamma-endorphin (β-endorphin 1-17) is a POMC-derived peptide with minimal opioid receptor affinity. It is thought to act through non-opioid neuromodulatory pathways, including dopaminergic modulation. Early research explored its role in schizophrenia-like behaviors, though clinical translation was not successful.
