Enterostatin

GI / Appetite Regulation

Also known as: VPDPR, Val-Pro-Asp-Pro-Arg

GI PeptidesResearch phase: PreclinicalRegulatory: Not approved. Research peptide.

Mechanism

Enterostatin is a pentapeptide released during fat digestion that selectively reduces dietary fat intake. It represents the body's feedback mechanism for fat consumption.

Technical detail

Enterostatin (VPDPR) is a pentapeptide released by tryptic cleavage of pancreatic procolipase during fat digestion. It selectively inhibits fat intake without affecting carbohydrate or protein consumption via peripheral (afferent vagal) and central (amygdala, paraventricular nucleus) mechanisms involving kappa-opioid and serotonin-2C receptor signaling.
