Endothelin-2

Cardiovascular / Endocrine

Also known as: ET-2, EDN2

Endothelin FamilyResearch phase: PreclinicalRegulatory: Not approved as drug. Endogenous vasoactive peptide.

Mechanism

Endothelin-2 is a potent vasoconstrictor peptide similar to endothelin-1, involved in ovulation, wound healing, and inflammatory responses.

Technical detail

Endothelin-2 is a 21-amino acid peptide differing from ET-1 by two residues. It binds ETA and ETB receptors with similar affinity to ET-1. ET-2 is expressed in ovary, intestine, and immune cells. It plays critical roles in ovarian follicle rupture (ovulation) and has been implicated in inflammatory bowel disease and cancer progression.
