Dermaseptin
Antimicrobial Peptide / VenomAlso known as: Dermaseptin S1, Dermaseptin B2
Amphibian Antimicrobial PeptidesResearch phase: PreclinicalRegulatory: Not approved. Research compounds.
Mechanism
Dermaseptins are antimicrobial peptides from tree frog skin with broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, fungi, and protozoa.
Technical detail
Dermaseptins are a family of 28-34 amino acid linear cationic alpha-helical peptides from Phyllomedusa species. They disrupt microbial membranes through electrostatic interaction with anionic lipids followed by insertion and permeabilization. Some members show anticancer and antiprotozoal (Leishmania, Plasmodium) activity in vitro.
