Decapeptide-12
Cosmetic / Skin LighteningAlso known as: Lumixyl
Mechanism
Decapeptide-12 is a cosmetic peptide that directly inhibits tyrosinase, the key enzyme in melanin production, for skin-brightening effects.
Technical detail
Decapeptide-12 (Lumixyl) is a synthetic oligopeptide identified by phage display that inhibits mushroom and human tyrosinase. It is reported to be more effective than kojic acid and comparable to hydroquinone in reducing melanin production in vitro without cytotoxic effects. Used in cosmetic and dermatological skin-lightening formulations.

Small 24-week open-label prospective study in women with facial photodamage/hyperpigmentation reported improvement with a decapeptide-12-containing brightening regimen and good tolerability, but lacked a randomized control arm.
