Conantokin-G

Venom Peptide / NMDA Receptor

Also known as: Conantokin G, CGX-1007

ConotoxinsResearch phase: Phase 1 (analog CGX-1007)Regulatory: Not approved. Investigational.

Mechanism

Conantokin-G is a cone snail venom peptide that blocks NMDA glutamate receptors. It has been studied as a potential treatment for epilepsy and pain.

Technical detail

Conantokin-G is a 17-amino acid peptide from Conus geographus containing gamma-carboxyglutamate residues. It is a selective antagonist of NR2B-containing NMDA receptors. Preclinical studies demonstrated anticonvulsant and analgesic properties. The synthetic analog CGX-1007 entered Phase I trials for intractable epilepsy.
